What we did

  • Demolition and general setting out of the home
  • Plasterboard with soundproofing and plastering
  • Walls skimmed with a roller and smoothed with a trowel
  • Full renovation of two bathrooms: one with a shower tray and one with a bath
  • New plumbing in multilayer pipe
  • Tiling with 45° mitre cuts on a wet saw
  • Electric underfloor heating with self-levelling screed
  • Flooring replaced throughout the home
  • Internal doors, kitchen and built-in wardrobe
  • Full coordination of all trades

The problem: noise, cold floors and two bathrooms from another era

The house had thin walls that let in noise from the street and the neighbours, old, cold flooring and two bathrooms that hadn't been touched in decades. The client wanted a quiet home, warm in winter, with new bathrooms, and nothing left half done.

We started with the demolition and setting out the new layout. On the party walls we built a plasterboard frame with mineral wool insulation, and the remaining walls were skimmed with a roller and smoothed with a trowel for an even finish before painting.

Services and underfloor heating

  • New multilayer plumbing for both bathrooms and the kitchen, with concealed taps.
  • Electric underfloor heating throughout the home, covered with self-levelling screed to create a flat base with no steps.
  • New porcelain tiles throughout the house and marble-effect porcelain in the bathrooms, with the corners mitred at 45° on a wet saw: clean edges, no metal trims and no dust inside the home.

How it was done

Yuriy coordinated all the trades and carried out most of the work himself: building work, plasterboard, plumbing, tiling and fitting the doors, kitchen and built-in wardrobe. One bathroom was finished with a shower tray and the other with a bath, both with an LED mirror and wall-hung units. The client received photos and videos of the progress every week.

  1. 1

    Demolition and setting out

We stripped out the two old bathrooms, the flooring throughout the house and the partition walls that did not fit the new layout.

  2. 2

    Soundproofing and plasterboard

Plasterboard framing with mineral wool insulation on the party walls and ceilings, to cut out noise from the neighbours and the street.

  3. 3

    Multilayer plumbing

Brand-new water supply in multilayer pipe for both bathrooms and the kitchen, with the outlets chased into the walls where the taps will go.

  4. 4

    Electric underfloor heating

Heating cable laid on the slab and covered with self-levelling screed to leave a flat base ready for the porcelain tiles.

  5. 5

    New flooring

Porcelain tiles laid throughout the home using a tile levelling system, piece by piece.

  6. 6

    Tiling the bathrooms

Marble-effect porcelain with the corners mitred at 45° on a wet saw; then skimming, painting, doors, kitchen and wardrobes.

Our biggest worry was the noise, and now you can't hear a thing at home. Yuriy explained every step, and the work went exactly as he said it would.
