Bathroom renovations in Dénia, Jávea and surroundings
The bathroom is the job we do most often and the one that makes the most of Yuriy's trade: tiling and plumbing are his two strongest skills. We take care of everything, from demolition to the shower screen, and if it helps we move the toilet, the shower or the window so the space actually works.
Whether it is a small apartment bathroom or the main bathroom of a villa, we plan it with you, quote it item by item and hand it over ready to use.
What does this service include?
Full demolition
We strip out the tiles, floor, sanitaryware and any redundant partitions. Rubble goes straight to a skip and walkways are protected.
New layout
We move the toilet, basin and shower if it improves the space. Windows too: in Gandía we moved one to make room for the shower.
New plumbing and drainage
Multilayer pipework, repositioned supply points, drains with the right fall and accessible stop valves.
Waterproofing
Membrane in the shower area and at the floor junctions before tiling. It is what stops stains appearing on your neighbour's ceiling.
Shower tray
Resin, tiled walk-in or cut to size to suit the space. With a linear or central drain depending on the tray.
Wall and floor tiling
Large format, small format such as 7x20, textured tiles in the shower... Exposed corners are mitred at 45° with a wet tile cutter.
Sanitaryware and taps
Wall-hung toilets with concealed cisterns, wall-hung or vanity basins, concealed taps and shower columns set into the wall or ceiling.
Screen, lighting and details
Made-to-measure fixed or sliding screen, LED mirror, electric towel rail, recessed shower niches and dimmable warm/cool lighting.
Painting and finishing
Anti-damp paint on the ceiling and any untiled walls, silicone at every junction and a final check over.

How we renovate a bathroom
Every bathroom is small and packed with services, so the order of work is everything.
Demolition and inspection. We strip back to the brick and, with the walls bare, check the soil stack, supply points and the condition of the floor slab. This is when surprises turn up, and also the best moment to deal with them.
Plumbing and electrics. We run the new multilayer pipework with the supply points exactly where the sanitaryware will go, and the drains with the correct fall. We fit the concealed tap bodies in the wall and, if there is a ceiling shower, the arm in the suspended ceiling. Lighting points are left ready for the mirror, the shower and the general light.
Straightening the walls. In older bathrooms the walls are not plumb. We true them up before tiling; otherwise large-format tiles show every defect and the screens will not close properly.
Waterproofing. Liquid membrane or sheet membrane in the shower area, with tape at the junctions and turned up the walls. In a tiled shower the waterproofing goes under the screed and on top of it too, before the tiles.
Wall and floor tiling. Large formats are laid with a notched trowel and double-buttered. Exposed corners are mitred at 45° with a wet cutter, no dust and no plastic trims. Niches are tiled with the same tile so they look carved out of the wall.
Sanitaryware, screen and lighting. Toilet, basin, taps, made-to-measure screen, LED mirror, towel rail. We test pressures and drains and make sure nothing drips before we call the job finished.
Materials and solutions we recommend
- Tiled walk-in shower with a linear drain when you want the floor to run through uninterrupted; resin tray when speed and grip matter most.
- Thermostatic shower valve: constant temperature and lower water use. We fitted one in an apartment bathroom in Dénia and it is one of the things clients thank us for most.
- Wall-hung toilet so you can clean the floor without obstacles and the room feels bigger.
- Mirror with built-in LED instead of a wall light: even light on your face and one cable fewer.
- Dimmable warm/cool lighting, as in Gandía: cool for shaving, warm for relaxing.
- Electric towel rail in apartments without central heating: dries towels and takes the damp out of the air.
If you need to trim the budget: keep the layout (moving the soil stack is what pushes the price up), choose a good-quality standard tile and save the treat for the taps or the vanity unit.
Common mistakes we avoid
- Tiling over old tiles. It is done to save on demolition and it ends up coming away. We always strip back.
- Waterproofing the floor only. Water splashes; the membrane must go up the shower walls.
- Not enough fall in tiled showers: puddles form and black marks appear.
- Measuring the screen before tiling. It is measured at the end, with the tiles on, so it closes to the millimetre.
- Untreated window inside the shower. uPVC frame, tiled sill and neutral-cure silicone; in Jávea we replaced an aluminium window with uPVC for exactly this reason.

Bathroom renovations in local homes
In apartments in Dénia and Jávea the bathroom tends to be small, internal or with a tiny window, and still has the original bath. The usual job is to replace it with a large shower, fit a wall-hung toilet and add light with an LED mirror; that is what we did in a small bathroom in Dénia, with a black tray, textured tiles in the shower and a made-to-measure cupboard in the gap left next to the tray.
In villas and houses in Gandía, Ondara or Pego there is more room and the bath makes a comeback, but with concealed taps and a niche. And in every case, this close to the sea, damp is unforgiving: ventilation, anti-damp paint on ceilings and neutral-cure silicone at every junction.

Frequently asked questions about bathroom renovations
How long does a bathroom renovation take?
A complete bathroom of 4–6 m² usually takes 2 to 3 weeks on site. The Gandía bathroom, with a new window and a tiled walk-in shower, took 3 weeks. A bath-to-shower swap that leaves the rest untouched can be done in under a week.
Resin tray or tiled walk-in shower?
Resin is quicker to fit, non-slip and easy to clean. A tiled shower allows any size and shape and the same tile as the rest of the room, but needs very careful waterproofing and a little more time. We do both; we recommend one or the other depending on the space and how you use it.
Can the toilet be moved?
Almost always, but it depends on where the soil stack is. A wall-hung toilet with a concealed cistern gives plenty of leeway because the waste runs hidden behind the stud wall. We check it on the visit before promising anything.
Which tiles hold up best near the sea?
Rectified porcelain, with good-quality epoxy or cement grout. Large format means fewer joints and easier cleaning; small format adds texture and does a better job of hiding walls that are out of plumb in older properties.
Will I be able to use the bathroom during the works?
No, that bathroom is out of action for 2–3 weeks. If it is the only one in the house we take that into account when planning and keep the toilet connected for as many days as possible.
How long does the quote take?
A bathroom is quoted within a few days of the visit. It is broken down by item: demolition, plumbing, waterproofing, tiling, sanitaryware, screen... so you know what each thing costs and what you can change.
