Air-source heat pump and underfloor heating in a new-build home in Benidorm

Air-source heat pump with underfloor heating installed in a new-build home in a rural area of Benidorm: outdoor units, hot water cylinder, manifolds and pipe circuits in every room.

What we did

  • Heat pump outdoor units installed on the roof
  • Hot water cylinder fitted and hydraulic connections made
  • Castellated insulation panel across the whole floor
  • Underfloor heating circuits, one per room, back to the manifold
  • Manifold with flow meters and connection to the system
  • Electrical wiring for the equipment
  • Installation left ready for the screed to be laid afterwards

Heating and cooling a new home without radiators or wall units

This new-build home, in a rural area of Benidorm, was designed from the outset around an air-source heat pump and underfloor heating: heating in winter, cooling in summer and domestic hot water from a single system, with no radiators on the walls and nothing on show. Because it was a new build, the installation went in before the screed, which is exactly when underfloor heating comes out well, with no need to raise the floor level.

Materials and details

  • Heat pump outdoor units on the roof, on plinths, with the refrigerant and water lines insulated all the way inside.
  • Hot water cylinder wall-mounted, with its valves and connections.
  • Castellated insulation panel across the whole floor, which holds the pipe without clips and insulates it from the slab.
  • Multilayer pipe in a spiral layout, one circuit per room, so the temperature is even and each room can be controlled separately.
  • Manifold with flow meters to balance the circuits.

How it was done

Yuriy set out the partition walls on the panel and marked the route of each circuit before laying any pipe, avoiding clashes with the service runs. The circuits were then connected to the manifold, the outdoor units and the cylinder were fitted, and the system was left pressurised and tested. The installation was ready for the builder to lay the screed over the underfloor heating.

  1. 1

    Equipment delivery

The heat pump units, hot water cylinder and underfloor heating materials arrive on site.

  2. 2

    Setting out the circuits

Laying the castellated insulation panel and marking the partition walls and circuits out on the floor.

  3. 3

    Laying the pipe

Multilayer pipe clipped into the panel in spiral runs, one circuit per room, back to the manifold.

  4. 4

    Hydraulic connections

Connecting the cylinder, valves and insulated pipework between the outdoor units and the inside of the house.

  5. 5

    Outdoor units

Mounting the heat pump units on the roof on plinths, with insulated pipework and cabling.

It was a new-build house and we wanted efficient heating and cooling from day one. Yuriy coordinated the heat pump and the underfloor heating with the rest of the build without holding anyone up.
